Acupuncture: What is it?
Chinese herbal medicine theory says there are channels (or meridians) of energy which circulate around the body. This is done mostly at a superficial depth and it follows a continuous closed loop circuit. This closed loop consists of multiple channels which are not only connected end by end, but by a network of small interconnecting branches. There are a total of twelve main acupuncture channels and eight extra channels (which are referred to as the extraordinary channels).
Effectively, acupuncture regulates the body. It brings it back to a natural state of balance. Along each of the acupuncture channels are specific locations, (or acupoints) which when stimulated, will regulate the energy in a specific way.
It is yet to be determined how many acupoints are on the human body. There are differing opinions between the various schools of thought. There may still even be acupoints which are yet to be discovered. Some acupoints are more affective than others. Given this, some are used more frequently in clinical practice.
Acupuncture can be used to treat a wide range of health conditions. If you have a health problem or you are interested in trying acupuncture, please phone 9231 3377 to discuss if it is suitable for you.
