What Happens in an Acupuncture Session?
Acupuncture sessions at Meridian Healing Centre are delivered with an eye for detail and quality. Each session is preceded by a consultation to assist a diagnosis and treatment plan according to Chinese medicine theory. A consultation is necessary irrespective of whether you will be receiving an acupuncture or if it is a herbal medicine consultation.
After the consultation, acupuncture patients will proceed into one of the private treatment rooms. In most instances, the treatment will commence with a short back massage which is designed to help the patient relax whilst stimulating the acupuncture meridians. This also assists the decision as to whether it will be more optimal to treat the back or the front of the patient. After the massage and when the patient is in the desired position, Dr Wilson will administer the acupuncture needles. The needles will stay in situ for approximately 20-25 minutes. Once the acupuncture needles are removed, cupping will be applied to the back. This is designed to relax the back and reduce stress. The time required for an acupuncture treatment is one hour.
Patients who are receiving herbal medicine can often require a more detailed consultation. Once a diagnosis has been made and the prescription has been determined, the herbal medicine will be dispensed whilst you wait. This only takes between 5-10 minutes. The time required for a herbal medicine treatment is 30 minutes, unless it is in addition to an acupuncture treatment. In these instances, one hour will be required.
